Gabriella Smith BSc (Hons) MRICS

Gabriella is a Chartered Building Surveyor who is also accredited in Historic Building Conservation with the RICS. She has over 20 years experience in the conservation and architectural fields.

Gabriella has worked on many large and prominent buildings including,  a large well known listed townhouse in Soho Square London, the Royal Pew at Hampton Court Palace where she project managed the structural investigation stage overseen by English Heritage Inspectors. She assisted with numerous projects at Windsor Castle where she worked for the Surveyor of the Fabric. She was also involved with specifying work on listed mansion projects for private clients, as well as at the Priory Church of St. Bartholomew the Great in London.

Gabriella has experience of researching the history of buildings and writing Conservation Plans, having contributed to one for Historic Royal Palaces, as well as one for the Dean & Canons of Windsor Castle.

She has project managed various small to large scale conservation projects at English Heritage, Plowden & Smith and Harrow School before working for Historic England on a multi-million pound HLF funded project and managing a challenging site which included several grade I, II and II* listed buildings with a number of repairs, as well as ecological challenges such as protected badgers, bats, swifts and bees! Prior to consulting work with Heritage House, she also worked as a Senior Building Surveyor at the National Trust where work included various structural repair works after the dry summer of 2018 and the repair of a historic reservoir within a listed Park.

Having trained with the Surveyor of the Fabric of Windsor Castle, Gabriella has always been trained from early on to strive for the highest standards and works well on her own or as a member of a team.

Gabriella also has practical knowledge. Over the last five years she has been in the process of repairing and conserving a Grade II early 1900’s stone house with barn and outbuildings all of which were in a state of partial disrepair, using or re-using as much of the original materials as possible.

Gabriella is a member of the Historic Royal Palaces salvage team, the international DemHist Committee and has recently been invited to join one of the RICS Journal Editorial Advisory Groups.

She is continually developing her personal and professional skills within the conservation sector, keeping abreast of current research and conservation approaches not just in the UK but also abroad.
