Richard Williams Bsc (hons) MRICS

Richard lives on a small farm in East Sussex with Ellie (his fiancé) , Fern the Spaniel and various other horses and time to time other animals / livestock.

Richard specialises in traditional construction and has significant experience in the repair, maintenance and development of traditional buildings.

Richard qualified as a Chartered Surveyor with the RICS in 2011. His initial career was developed in central London and mainly focused on larger project management and contract administration work.

At Heritage Consulting Richard provides consultancy services for historic properties on a daily basis, carrying out full building surveys to the RICS Level 3 standards, detailed timber frame repair works, production of specifications for repairs, and project management of works together with full contract administration duties.

Richard has worked on a number of complicated Grade II, II* and Grade I listed buildings. Castles, Follys, Farmhouses, Medievil Houses and various other buildings. Currently he is working on major repairs to a Grade I Jacobean Manor House, Major repairs to a Grade I listed historic monument and partially reconstructing a Grade II Medieval Hall House. Richard has provided advice and acted as expert witness on a number of historic buildings.

Richard is competent at recording buildings and archaeological interpretation surveys, including the recording, dating and documenting of timber framed buildings. Richard is able to provide historical advise on Timber Framed buildings and provide detailed specifications inc prescribing detailed methods of repair.

However, Richard is very proud of his vast practical experience and believes it is an essential part of being able to competency advise others on Historic Buildings on a professional basis.

Richard has restored and worked on a large  number of  historic buildings, including a Victorian Gothic Church, Grade II listed Georgian townhouse (part timber framed), Georgian Farmhouse and Farmstead (Part Timber Framed) , Barns, Stables, and various other pre 1920 buildings.

Richard has undertaken the construction work on these buildings himself and has significant practical experience in the repair and construction of such buildings at a hands-on site level.

Richard has recently relocated and reconstructed a 3 bay 18thC Sussex Tithe Barn, including undertaking all the Oak Frame repairs and assembly. Richard has also relocated and rebuilt other Oak Frame Farm Buildings and Structures including undertaking detailed recording of the buildings and repairs.

Richard is a competent Timber Framer and Joiner and had a joinery workshop and blacksmiths shop for the production of traditional carpentry, joinery and ironwork, with a large portfolio of work produced, including sash windows, doors, curved work,  staircases, Structural Ironwork and decorative Ironwork.

Richard has completed the Oak Timber Framing Repair course (Weald and Downland Museum) and the Historic England Timber Masterclass.
